Biosecurity Training

Tasmania’s unique biosecurity status makes every beekeeper a vital part of protecting our state’s honey bees. With Varroa mite now established on mainland Australia, maintaining strong biosecurity practices has never been more important.

Whether you keep one hive or one hundred, understanding how to monitor your colonies, recognise signs of pests and diseases, and respond quickly to potential threats is essential.

Equip yourself with practical, Australian-focused knowledge and hands-on skills to help safeguard your apiaries, while contributing to the health and resilience of Tasmania’s beekeeping industry.

Get ready for season 2026/27

Before the next season starts in Spring, all beekeepers should undertake the brand-new Biosecurity for Beekeepers training course. It provides advice on keeping honey bees healthy using industry best practice and supports the Australian Honey Bee Industry Biosecurity Code of Practice.

Step 1: Ensure your hives are registered on BeeTAS

Step 2: Complete the Biosecurity for Beekeepers training course

Step 3: Upload your certificate of completion to BeeTAS

Face-to-face Workshops

If you prefer to learn with others, the DVBA is holding workshops to help all beekeepers complete the Biosecurity for Beekeepers training course. We’ll go through the course together – answering questions and discussing the important topics in an informal setting. Our tech-savvy experts will be there to help you along the way too, if needed.
